Mieke, Catching up!

I can't believe I am doing alphabet number 6!
This will be definitely my last.
For this one I am choosing my preferred use of material, CLAY.
And for that matter my preferred use of firing as well, RAKU.
so here are my letters from august and September.

 

I used a white crackle glaze, left the letters unglazed which in the reduction bins go black.

please explain!

I suppose I left out how I finished the piece, so here goes....
First I glued the letters onto a strip of  cotton the rubber backed curtain material to be exact.
In between the letters I have sown on  garden twigs from the back.
I made spirals from copper wire these are slipped over the twigs and to finish it of some beads from my collection.
Ersi, I explained the making of my letters in my first post.

Hope this answers all the questions if not, just ask.

It took me a while to get it right, after 4 different attempts I'm happy with the result.
It makes it really hard to get it right wen you don't have a finished piece in mind wen one starts, at least that what I found out.
so finally here is my result.

NEARLY THERE!

I am working on it, so hopefully done by the end of the month.
My next alphabet will be a bit late then as well, have to do 2 lots in august!

It gives a bit of a change although not much.

-R-, Still working on the assembly,  this is a hard  one, I still have no idea at this stage!!

Just in time!

I am still working on the end design.

I love what everybody is doing so far, such a diversity of materials and imagination.

Can't wait to see them all finished.

AND THE NEXT FROM MIEKE.

 There is not much else I can tell about my letters,

 The story is pretty much the same

 as all my letters before

 so....... cardboard, wax, shellac, rust, copper strip and split-pins.

can't wait to start on the finishing and putting it all together!

I keep going the way I started and think about a way of connecting them together.

It's so much fun working with shellac and wax.

I really like the rust of the letters.

And the added split-pins make it more dotti I hope.

Another layer of shellac on the rust glues it on well.

Here are my first 4 letters of the alphabet, the dotti version.

I painted hot wax on cardboard first.

Wen this was cold and hard I painted several layers of shellac over the top.

Then hit it with a heat gun to melt the wax witch separated the shellac.

The Letters are glued on rust-dust witch I scraped of an rusty piece of iron they are representing the dots.

I then covered the edges with copper strip used in lead lighting and added split pens in some spots to give it some more dots.

Hi, My patch (15 acres) is in Maleny a wonderful place in the Hinterland of the sunshine coast.
We grow strawberries-kiwifruit-avocados and other bits and pieces witch we sell on markets in the week-ends.
In my "free time"my passion is clay, many different aspects of it I do wheel work, sculpture and everything in between! Different firings as well Raku-Naked Raku, horsehair raku and firings in an electric kiln.

I really enjoyed doing the alphabets so far witch moved me in different directions an outside the square.
So... on to the next one!
