Alphabet Number 2

So here are the first 4 letters of my second alphabet

Which for me is the dotty one

These are tea bags

The letters are printed by cutting the shapes out of

Eucalyptus cinerea leaves

painting them with a little diluted egg yolk

and then clamping them with round metal lids

before boiling them for an hour or so

I had hoped the circle would print more prominently

but it did not so instead my dots have been

made by burning with an incense stick

The Tailenders

Finally we come to the end of the saga of the progressive alphabet

This time they have all been dipped in hot wax

The little tie in the corner is to stop me burning my fingers

and now some assemblage is in order

Those strings might just come in handy

Letters for May

I must say it feels like forever since I did these letters in preparation for my time away.

These have had Sumi-E water based Japanese calligraphy ink applied.

Left to dry

But not too long

and then rinsed off under running water.

I wonder what I will do next!!!!

April Blues MNOP

I am getting these done nice and early this month

as I am off next week for a month of travel and workshops

This time in my progressive alphabet I have added a layer

of paint made from

natural indigo powder and soy milk powder.

The Next Four IJKL

So here we are at stage 3 of my progressive alphabet

all the letters have no had a coat of paint

this is a combination of skim milk powder

yello ochre

and water

mixed to a creamy consistency

The Next Four

And here they are.

I have painted over each one with a starch paste

This time the paste consists of

Soy  milk powder and plain white spelt flour

Next will be some painting

I am having to be a bit ahead of schedule

as I will be away for half of April and May

Plus prep time of course.

Trace's Intro

Hi Trace Willans here from the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.

This is my first time alphabetising here with ALAW.

So I am hoping that I will get away with the rules I will break.

I work a lot with multiple processes and as I work only with natural materials and make all my own paints etc, it makes sense to me to work in multiples.

So what I thought I would do is each month show the letters after having done the next process.

I hope that makes sense.

Above are my first 4 letters hand stitched in cretan stitich onto cotton fabric.

Next month I will show what has happened to the next 4 letters.
