Lisa's A through M

It has been a while since my first ALaW post, which was mainly a loose collection of ideas with very little direction. Although I finally did find myself on a path, and have been gradually building my alphabet (the non-dotty one), this is the first post showing my progress. I have really enjoyed visiting the ALaW blog over the last few months—thanks to all of you for the inspiration!

Jenny's March Letters

 About halfway there and I am starting to think about how to put these together.  They seem like the sort of letters that belong in a book, where you can open it to different pages - perhaps just a concertina book of some kind.  I think the next stage will be to put these letters in and make space for the next lot.  My favourite this month is definitely J!

Julie's 2nd Alphabet-ABCD

Hi Gang!
Thought I would mix things up and start in on my second alphabet, which is the theme one with dots, then alternate them when I show you. End of the year, I'll show both put together in their book form...or whatever I do with them!
These are letters based on Julian Waters' Waters Titling font, and cut out of paper, mounted on different marbled papers (that had dots in them!) and a color dot added as an accent. The photos are a little askew. Hard to shoot. I hope you like them!

March Letters, Early April!

Down to the wire this time with my March letters I don't know where the time goes?

There is not much text on the old map I'm using but here we have "Lough" which means "Lake" in Gaelic. I think I better get started on April today so I don't fall behind again.

This time in my progressive alphabet I have added a layer

of paint made from

natural indigo powder and soy milk powder.

More of my dotty stamp and sequin series. I am finding it really interesting to see how the shapes of the letters change depending on where I place the sequins. By just moving them slightly they can give a letter an ‘uncomfortable’ look or make it look rather quirky.

I am still just working on letters that appealed to me at the time, so I have had to make a list of the letters that I have finished so that I don’t leave any out. Does this mean that at the end I will be left with the letters that I don’t want to do?

I just realised that the letter ‘t’ doesn’t have the same style as the other letters, it shouldn’t have the bowl at the bottom, but I like it, so I will leave it for now and perhaps do another one later.

Just made it in time!  March seems to have been very busy, with too many things other than textiles! Have really enjoyed seeing what everyone else comes up with. Such a diverse range.

Once again I am late! Seems to be the norm for me these days, funny thing I used to be so punctual - not sure where that went to.... ? :-\

So my post today is both February and March and an additional picture of how the piece is coming along. Still working on the polka dot theme...

Starting to take shape all rolled out - A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J

I've started looking into the finishing of the piece, this one's a bit more technical and I believe it's going to take a little more time to nut out what I'll be needing in turns of the final touches and from whom. I want to create a light box effect like they appear in these photo's, hopefully it'll work out - things always sound great in 'theory'

I'M ON A ROLL

Have caught up with the rest of the field and can relax.  These letters are chugging along and I'm looking forward to mounting them.  Grandma would be proud to think that I was recycling some of her stuff, but she would't recognise what I'm doing with it.  Happy Easter to ALAW'ers.
